5 Tips to Get the Most Out of Your Towels

Posted by LightLoad Towels on 18th Oct 2021

What’s the first thing you do after a nice long shower? You reach out for your fresh towel. But what if your towel is scratchy and stinky? Nothing can ruin your post-shower mood like a rough, lifeless towel that barely soaks up any water.

After a few wash cycles, towels begin to lose that amazing, soft feel. A few more, and you practically end up with a rag. Luckily, with the right amount of care and maintenance, that can be a thing of the past. There are a few positive towel habits that you can and should practice every day to ensure that your towels remain soft and fluffy for as long as possible. While this might mean changing the way you do a few things, keeping your towels in good condition isn’t all that difficult.

Here are a few tips to make your towels last longer:

1.Don’t wash them after every use

Let us start with the good news. You don’t need to wash your towels too frequently and definitely not after every use. Unless they get dirty, you can simply hang them up to dry after you use them. It is recommended that you wash them only after every three uses. Washing them too often can cause their fibers to weaken and make them feel rough and scratchy.

2.Wash them separately

Never wash your towels with your other clothes. There are a couple of reasons for that. One, since bath towels are generally clean, they do not need as much detergent as your other clothes might do. Also, in the wash, zippers, Velcro, buttons, and other materials can easily pull on the towels.

3.Do not toss damp towels on the floor

Do you have a habit of throwing your damp towels on the floor? It is time you stopped doing that. Piling up damp towels, regardless of whether they are clean, can lead to mold. And since the moisture will be trapped between the folds, it will also promote bacterial growth.

4.Pick lighter colored towels

One of the things you need to consider when buying towels is their color. It is always a good idea to opt for lighter colors as they are less likely to fade. Moreover, since they have less dye, they also tend to stay absorbent and fluffy for much longer than darker colors.

5.Replace your towels every couple of years

Even with meticulous care, your towels will begin to show signs of wear over time. To make sure that you always have soft and absorbent towels at your disposal, you should replace them every two to three years. You should also keep a few extra emergency towels at hand for unforeseen situations.
